Zurich’s Architecture

The city of Zurich contains architectural jewels such as the Grossmünster church or the Fraumünster church. The first is the emblem of Zurich (legend has it that when Charlemagne first discovered the tombs of the patron saints Felix and Regula, he had a first church and monastery built there). This church will immerse you in an incredible world, with Polke stained glass windows, a Romanesque crypt and Otto Münch's bronze doors.

The Fraumünster church, on the other hand, is characterised by its stained glass windows, real architectural jewels. The ones to the north of the church were made by Augusto Giacometti, while the stained glass windows in the choir are the work of Marc Chagall. Legend has it that this church was inhabited by women of European nobility during the 10th century.

The Market Place

For market lovers, Sechseläutenplatz is the place to be. Located between Bellevue and the Opernhaus, the square blends tradition with modernism. It is on this square that the spring festival and many other traditional Zurich ceremonies are celebrated every year.

On the edge of the square is the opera house and the Bellevue, an important tram station in Zurich. With its 16,000m2, it is one of the largest squares in Switzerland's urban centres.
