Zurich is the most populated city in Switzerland with an agglomeration of 2 million permanent inhabitants. Located on Lake Zurich, the city is appreciated for its beautiful views, its historic centre and its mild climate.
This cosmopolitan city mixes nature with a creative urban life. Many events occur throughout the year, from food festivals to museums or mountain hikes for the most adventurous.
We have prepared a list of places and events not to be missed during your stay in the city. Bear in mind we can organise limousine transfers in and around Zurich with a private driver, which will allow you to discover the below places with style.
The city of Zurich contains architectural jewels such as the Grossmünster church or the Fraumünster church. The first is the emblem of Zurich (legend has it that when Charlemagne first discovered the tombs of the patron saints Felix and Regula, he had a first church and monastery built there). This church will immerse you in an incredible world, with Polke stained glass windows, a Romanesque crypt and Otto Münch's bronze doors.
The Fraumünster church, on the other hand, is characterised by its stained glass windows, real architectural jewels. The ones to the north of the church were made by Augusto Giacometti, while the stained glass windows in the choir are the work of Marc Chagall. Legend has it that this church was inhabited by women of European nobility during the 10th century.
For market lovers, Sechseläutenplatz is the place to be. Located between Bellevue and the Opernhaus, the square blends tradition with modernism. It is on this square that the spring festival and many other traditional Zurich ceremonies are celebrated every year.
On the edge of the square is the opera house and the Bellevue, an important tram station in Zurich. With its 16,000m2, it is one of the largest squares in Switzerland's urban centres.
Indeed, Lake Zurich is an essential place not to be missed.
What could be more beautiful than the shores of the lake in summer to gather, picnic under the sun or dive into the water.
Lake Zurich is one of the five great lakes in Switzerland, including Lake Geneva, Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Constance and Lake Lucerne. The lake is home to four islands accessible via a footbridge and ideal for excursions into the countryside.
